Many faces, many voicesInnovations that promote systems change in creating healthy food systems and the physical/built environment - 11 stories from communities across the country From June 23-26, 2008, representatives from 11 community-based programs gathered in Detroit to share experiences, best practices, and lessons learned. Six of these projects focus on building healthy food systems, and five focus on creating physical environments that support active lives. These presentations show the myriad and interconnected ways that food systems and physical/built environments influence health. These many connections make clear the importance of an integrated approach to systems change that will increase physical activity and improve diet — foundations for supporting healthier individuals, families, and communities. |
